Как многие из вас знают, 4 июля – главный праздник в Соединенных Штатах, когда отмечается подписание Декларации Независимости 4 июля 1776 года. Континентальный конгресс путем голосования утвердил независимость от Великобритании 2 июля, однако, делегаты конгресса не сошлись сразу на формулировке декларации (очень по-американски) и подписали её только 4-го июля. 236 лет назад отцами-основателями Соединенных Штатов было принято решение объявить свою страну независимой. Independence Day

As many of you know, the United States’ national day is July 4, which celebrates the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. The Continental Congress actually had voted to approve independence from Great Britain on July 2, but in true American fashion, the delegates to the Congress debated the wording of the Declaration and signed it on the 4th. 236 years ago, the founding fathers of the United States decided to declare independence for their country. They wanted a nation that would guarantee to its people the inalienable rights of all men and the promise that they would be able to have the opportunity for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. This ideal is the basis of the American nation. It is what drew and continues to draw immigrants to our shores. It is what motivates all Americans even today.

President Obama said, “Today, we reflect on the courage and tenacity of a small band of revolutionaries who defied an empire to declare "that these united colonies are, and of right ought to be free and independent states.” We celebrate the very essence of America and the indomitable spirit that has defined us as a people for more than two centuries.

In many ways, the intrepid patriots who signed their names to our founding documents and risked their lives in the name of liberty might be surprised to see the progress of their grand experiment. We are a Nation that has fought for democracy, led revolutions in commerce, and sent a man to the moon - a Nation that lifts up the poor, cures the sick, and serves as a beacon of hope around the world.

Our success is possible only because of our Founders' central belief that through democracy and individual rights, ordinary people have it within their means to forge a country that is more just, more equal, and more free. This conviction has been carried forward and safeguarded by generations of heroes who have defended our principles at home and abroad - our brave men and women in uniform. Because of the extraordinary service and sacrifice of our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen, we are able to enjoy the freedoms we rejoice in on this occasion. And in their example, we recognize the fundamental American faith first tested by those revolutionaries - the faith that tells us no challenge is too great, and that through tests and through trials, we will always emerge stronger than before.”

The United States of America was a nation founded on an ideal -- that all persons are created equal and that all are endowed with inalienable rights. Our 236 years of history has been a journey and an evolution to bring our reality ever closer to that ideal. All Americans can be proud that we are a people that strives toward the future and an even better day for our children and our children’s children.
